Rick and Mindy, Twain Harte, CA

A common Universal Custom Display mantra is, “we’ll make it happen.” No one knows this more than Rick and Mindy, members of the education system for over 45 years, and aspiring to create their dream “log cabin” on a mountain top in Twain Harte, California. Though the project got off to a rough start (their first contractor fell out, setting them back years), eventually they found the perfect fit: a true craftsman, fully prepared to create an impressive cabin that could be straight out of Architectural Digest. UCD then had the great honor of supplying all cabinetry to make this vision come to life.

The Scope

Prior to the cabinets, there were a number of additions and dazzling renovations; including a hand-crafted staircase, wooden plank ceiling and massive windows allowing for the most awe-inducing views. Then it was Universal Custom Display’s turn: a new kitchen and pantry, a custom designed office, spacious laundry room and three beautiful bathrooms. The key with the cabinetry was that it would need to perfectly blend and match all of the hardwood, as well as compliment each element of their dream home. In doing so, UCD tapped into a sincere attention to detail, making sure each and every aspect was thoughtfully addressed, options weighed, and ultimately the best decisions made.

The Challenge

The project consisted of 110 boxes and 330 feet of cabinetry. The kitchen was equipped with 34 feet of uppers and lowers, crown molding throughout, and lighted glass doors that would proudly display all of Mindy’s most prized treasures. Personalization and making a project unique to the owner is UCD’s gold standard. One unique element from this project was a custom 12 foot grand island built specifically so Mindy could perform all of her canning with space and ease. Rick also got his dream office which featured a desk, bookcases and hand crafted cabinets to house all of his fishing trophies. An expansive laundry room and three gorgeous bathrooms lined with vanities and some serious casework rounded out UCD’s contribution to this project.

The Solution

Residential work has that special spark of personalization, offering the ability to make dream homes come true for those who have waited for it and imagined it for many years. With sincerity, meticulousness and complete professionalism— UCD was able to deliver for Rick and Mindy, giving them that perfect dream home they’ve always wanted.
